Between The Ears

John Wynne's Hearing Voices was awarded the Silver Medal at the 2005 Third Coast International Audio Festival. John, who was in Chicago in October 2006 to receive the award, describes the programme as a 'composed documentary' based on recordings of click languages made in the Kalahari Desert in Botswana.

The programme was first broadcast on BBC Radio 3's 'Between the Ears' in July 2004 and then repeated in June 2005.

"we enter a sound world of glitch, granular pulse and lo-bit rate buzz reminiscent of current digital (or so-called post-digital) music aesthetics. This buzz has a hint of cicadas."
John Levack Drever "Of Click and Glitch"
(Resonance Magazine volume 10 number 1)

John Wynne's Hearing Voices was also broadcast on the BBC World Service for a few days from Friday 6th October 2007.

Between June 28th and September 23rd 2005 John's installation, also called Hearing Voices, with photographs by Denise Hawrysio, could be seen at the Brunei Gallery of the School of Oriental and African Studies, Thornhaugh Street, London WC1.
