Emerald Streams

Saturday 28th November 2009
Produced by Rachel Hopkin

Across these three half hour features, the twin themes of migration and Irish traditional music are explored.  Thanks to emigration to Argentina in the 19th century and to the Caribbean in the 17th century, Irish music has spread to and continues to affect the cultures of far-off lands.  In return, its worldwide popularity is one factor compelling immigration to Ireland, as devoted followers of the music move towards the source.

In these three programmes, we trace the footprints of Irish music to and from Ireland.  There will be location-based features interweaving actuality, interviews, expert opinion and musical illustration.  With funding from the Broadcast Authority of Ireland.
