Melting Point
Saturday 21 November 2009
Produced by Nina Perry
Between The Ears
In this composed feature, Nina Perry explores the human
experience and musical sound of ice melting. The winter thaw into spring is a time most often associated
with renewal and hope, yet paradoxically in light of climate change melting ice
has taken on the more ominous connotation of disappearing ice mass and rising
sea levels. Melting Point interweaves the experiences of people living
in some of the coldest regions of the world with spectacular recordings of ice
melting to reveal the dichotomy and emotion of the thaw. You can read about Nina's trip to Iceland and Greenland, where she gathered material for the programme, via her blog at http://www.soundslike-ninaperry.blogspot.com/
