Liszt and His Women
7 June 2011
Presented by Lucy Parham
Produced by Alan Hall
To mark the 200th
anniversary of Franz Liszt’s birth, the pianist Lucy Parham explores the connection between virtuosity
and virility.
Liszt was a phenomenal
musical performer and, it seems, irresistible to women – among them Caroline
de Saint-Cricq, one of his students in Paris, the Countess Marie d’Agoult, the
mother of his children, Felicite de Lamennais and, from 1847, the Princess
Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein.
