Producer Alan Hall From the mountains of the Hindu Kush to the California coast, bread is central to our daily lives. It’s more that just something we eat: it’s a metaphor for money, for spirituality, for life itself. It’s a foundation stone of civilisation. Bread is one of our simplest foods yet it’s one that, in the hands of a master, becomes a thing of wonder.  And while most of us eat it everyday many of us take it for granted.

This series takes the theme of bread and uses it as a gateway to explore a host of different topics about food, culture, religion, health and community.
